A better way, to better golf
Q. Why perform movement assesments?
Golf Q & A's

Q. The PROGram for better golf
A. Golf fitness doesn't exist as a snappy slick video or book that is generic to exercise in general. A program is individually developed, from the ground up based on the goals you have for improving your golf game. This is the only effective way to do it. One-on-One, customized, unique, prescribed. Dr. John PRO Golf Fitness targets the physical aspects of your game, first assessing what you are capable of, where your problem areas are and what you would like to accomplish.
Q. What are the "golf muscles" anyway?
A. "The Golf Muscles" What are they? When are they used and how are they abused? There is very little accuracy in golf magazines about the "golf muscles" because there aren't any! Few players or professionals understand anatomy, physiology or body mechanics well enough to understand their true contribution to your swing.
Q. Is flexibility the key to the golf swing?
A. "Flexibility is the Key" WRONG! It's only half the equation. "ELASTIC GOLF" the right combination of appropiate stretch and contraction of muscles involved in the golf swing is the key. Many women are very flexible, yet they do not hit the ball far, why? They lack the elastic energy stored in a muscle that is large enough to contract with force. Think of it this way, picture a rubber band that is stretched. When you let go it flies. If you have a very long, loose rubber band, even if you stretch it it will not fly very far. Too short and it too will not go far. The golf swing is like this. It explains why "unconventional" player can hit the ball. Clearly the golf swing is unique to each individual.
Q. What about golf posture?
A. What is Posture? How often do we throw words around without knowing what they encompass? Posture is one of those words. In golf it usually means how you look when you stand over the ball at address. What is involved, in terms of muscle and nervous system involvement, is far more complicated. Dr. PRO will teach you what muscles control posture and how your body maintains it and why it is very critical to playing injury free.
Q. Is Balance necessary?
A. "Balance" Here there is little debate. Balance is very important to a golfer and his /her swing. Yet again what does it mean to have balance , to be balanced? Physiologically, it is the ability of a muscle or groups of muscles to hold a contraction against gravity. To demonstrate; stand on one foot, now close your eyes. How long did you last? Control of your body's muscles are put to the test, if you could stand for 30 seconds with your eyes closed you pass! If not, then you need golf fitness to get there, or to understand why you can't.
A. "Movement Assesment" Dr. PRO utilizes a variety of assesment methods to look at how you move throughout your swing. The goal it to identify restictions or abnormal movement patterns, out-of-sequence movements and technique flaws that may be prohibiting your body from doing what you are asking of it. Simple tests of body weight strength, stretching, balance and coordination provide the starting point for improving your golf fitness.
Q. What's the best.......?
A. "What's the best.....?" Over and over golfers want to know, in two seconds, what are the best stretches or exercises they should do for this or that. Dr. PRO's golf fitness is the best!!! Unfortunately it takes more than two seconds and you have to THINK and LEARN! The idea is to teach you things you can do on your own, with limited equipment and supervision, that will produce the greatest results in the shortest time. It's not easy, though it is worthwhile.
Q. Why is the golf swing so difficult to change? What's missing?
A. The correct starting point is your body. It's the foundation for any sport especially golf. Without proper posture, balance, weight shift, elasticity(flexibility & strength), power and control, the body cannot perform the tasks you ask of it. Often the helpful tips from magazines, videos, books and the Golf Channel only confuse when the bodies capabilities are not considered.
Q. Getting Started!
A. Golf is a game played for a lifetime. Golf fitness is an investment that will pay dividends for years to come. To get started, call or E-mail us with your desires for improving your golf game. If you have specific questions concerning injuries or your own physical issues add those too.
Q. Won't golf lessons alone improve my swing?
A. Certainly. However, if your body is physically unable to perform the required movements then the golf swing you are striving for cannot be obtained no matter how good the teacher is!
Q. What if I just practice more
A. Practice most often is spent on "perfecting imperfections" in your swing. When you "practice" how many good shots do you hit consistently?
Q. What do I need to do to play better and remain injury free?
A. Participate in a golf specific enhancement program that begins with a physical evalution that develops you step-by-step towards your goals of better golf. Once the physical is mastered, then integration of the mental skills, techniques, equiment and natural ability will flow smoothly.
Q. You mean golf is like other sports?
A. Surprisingly, golf places great demnds on the body. Not necessarily cardiovascular, but explosive muscle movements that require strength and flexibility in very specific ways. Physical training is definitely essential to good golf.
Q. What's the ideal swing for me?
A. An ideal swing is one that delivers optimal performance with the least effort. The purpose of your swing is to get the club back to where you started it, in the proper position. Faulty swing mechanics from physical restrictions are the most common cause of not being able to get the club back to where it started.
Q. What physical characteristics should I have to play good golf
A. There is no ideal body type, but each body type must integrate posture, balance, flexibility, coordination, control, strength, power and endurance to achieve optimal swing performance. When there is a deficit in one or more of these key areas, golfers will be forced to compensate by altering their swing.
Q. How do I know which areas need to be worked on?
A. That's the purpose of a performance enhancement evaluation. Dr. John PRO golf fitness begins with a swing analysis, followed by a physical evaluation and goal setting consultation. If you qualify, specific plans are developed to help you reach your goals.
